The Psychology of Repression: Foreword by Kit Carruthers
There is an underlying gross, disgusting tension within most cultures, the level of gross depending on the level of repression. It isn't just sex, whatever your culture represses festers inside of you and turns gross. You think you're gross for having internal feelings your culture tells you not to talk about, it sits there inside of you and it turns into actual grossness. Even if it isn't sex or bathroom related and so isn't actually seen as gross, everything repressed festers and turns gross. To some it can actually feel... Alive. It feels like a presence inside of you, attacking you... And it's fucking gross. An evil disgusting force that tells you to rape your children.

Obviously at this point we know why it feels alive, it's just your unconscious mind presenting itself. Yes, the cultures that enforce the strictest of repression cause a lot more shit fetish, it's true, not that I'm calling shit fetish gross though it is gross I'm just not saying it because I don't kink shame. We see the most exaggerated effect of repression in Mennonite culture which Aria Wellington and I explore in depth all over the work of The Society of Social Disturbance. Every time there is an "Everybody knows, but we don't talk about it" it turns wretched inside of everyone. Every culture within our society has varying levels of repression and so there is an underlying repression related ick within every culture. These are always the most disgusting of the ick representations.

Everybody knows, but we don't talk about it... In the case of people like the Mennonites it's what we do with these disgusting festering feelings that we don't talk about.

It isn't an ick that will necessarily attack you personally, though of course it may, it does attack most of you, however we are all living in it, even the people who do not engage in the repression have to live in our collective ick and yes it does affect them subconsciously, they're free of it but they're always looking at it. Even now that sex is no longer a shameful act, we still live under "We don't talk about it, but we all know... We all know sometimes you touch yourself at night." Of course, I don't want to live in a world of open discussion about your bowel movements, there are levels of societal repression that are acceptable, there are things that are so mildly repressed because we know they actually are gross and nothing feels wrong about keeping these thoughts and feelings inside, these ones are not hurting you, they cause no cultural ick. God does not want to punish you for trying to be pristine by making you unconsciously gross, all evidence suggests God prefers pristine.

Freud saw it, Jung saw it more intelligently, obviously due to the nature of their time they were both hilariously stupid about it... There's something inside of all of us, it's evil, it festers, it's disgusting, it appears to be a natural functioning of the mind it appears nobody ever has any way out of it all you can do is know it. It's... Repressed desires meeting societal expectation. No, it's... It's something along the lines of that but it's something else it's all of our inner darkness. Nope, nope, you still don't quite have it but you're getting there.
